1st Grade Evaluations
1st Grade Evaluations for next year placement!
(please read all info below to see if you are interested)
As you are well aware, at the end of 1st grade your children are evaluated and as of 2nd grade your child begins to take dance classes at different levels of skill, desire and commitment- This year, like last, instead of going onto one of our 2nd grade teams blindly, we thought it would be helpful to have your child try a team level class in order to know exactly how they would do and see if they would even be interested in such a rigorous program in the second grade.
In 2nd grade there are 3 wonderful levels that your child can dance at--- they are all specifically tailored for all kinds of dancers and personalities.
1. Recreational classes- are fun, fun, fun--- it is 1 hour ballet/jazz, 45 minutes of tap, 45 minutes of hip hop, and 45 minutes of acro and you
get to choose exactly which classes you do. There is no dress code and you have a ball once or twice a week. This level ranges from $65 to $175 a month depending on the classes you decide to take (tuition only-not including costumes).
2. Pre-team level (Sugar Plums)- is an invitational class and is a little more serious. You wear a black bodysuit and tights, have your hair in a bun and you come twice a week - 1 hr ballet, 45 minutes jazz, 1 hr tap, 45 minutes acro and an optional hip hop class that is 45 minutes. Absences count, pre-team is more serious than the recreational class but is still a fun environment---in 2nd grade, the pre-team does not compete, but in 3rd grade the pre-team goes to one competition. This class ranges from $205 to $260 a month (tuition only- costumes not included)
3. Team level (Mini Troupe)- is a very serious invitational class. This class wears a uniform (black bodysuit, pink tights and hair in a bun for every class, 3 days a week which includes every Saturday and an additional 10 hours of technique is required over the course of the school year. They participate in 2 competitions with this class. Absence is taken very seriously and it is a very strict environment and only for the serious dancer willing to commit to this only. We expect that you will NOT do another extra curricular activity except for dance when taking this program. This class ranges from $320 to $365 a month (tuition only- not including costumes and competition fees)
If your child is interested in the team or pre-team, then they can come to the FREE classes listed below to take class and see what it is about. These classes are Ballet/Technique classes and they are ALL on Saturdays. The students MUST complete at least 3 of them in order to be fully evaluated. We may ask your child to come to more if a decision can not be made about them.
Mark Your Calendars- These dates are also listed on our calendar on our website as well www.DanceAttitudesNJ.com

4/21 3pm - 4pm
possibly May 5th
We will be having these FREE ballet/technique classes for all 1st grade students who have an interest in anything MORE than recreational dance for next year. Hair must be in a bun but there is no specific dress code for this class. Please just try and wear a non-skirted bodysuit, tights and ballet slippers if you can. Again, you must do at least 4 of these Saturday classes but the more the better. If after 4 we are unsure to place you we might ask you to come to a few more....
These classes are in place strictly to evaluate your child's ability in an evaluation setting so that the different troupe teachers can see how your child takes class in a strict environment and also so that you can tell if your child is ready for such an environment.
Team/pre-team is a commitment from the teacher, student, and parent. Many children get chosen for the team and the parents think it is too much for them and then many parents want their children on the team but their child is not ready for it or the teacher does not think they are good for the program. It is really a group decision.
If you are interested in the recreational program for next year, NO further action is necessary, everyone is ready for a 2nd grade recreational class. All you would need to do is decide is what your child would like to take and then the fun begins.
If you are unsure of whether your child should be participating in this class, please email us asap. danceattitudes@aol.com Title the email "1st grade Evaluation".
Any questions, please email us and we will be glad to answer and assist you with anything you need!
Thanks so much, Shari and Paige
